Quinault Indian Nation’s Biomass for Heat Project proceeds to Facility Engineering and Design phase

In support of the Quinault Indian Nation’s Biomass for Heat Project, American Community Enrichment has now progressed through Phase 3; Pellet Manufacturing Feasibility Study funded through a USDA’s Rural Business Opportunity Grant (RBOG) Program. A new Grant has been approved for the Quinault Indian Nation Pellet Facility Engineering & Design. QIN with the assistance of American Community Enrichment (501C-3) recently completed a Pellet Manufacturing Feasibility Study (phase 3) that concluded a pellet mill can be an economically viable business in the Taholah area that should be pursued to provide employment and to reduce pollution and reliance on fossil fuel. The Facility Engineering and Design phase is funded by QIN and a Federal Grant from the US Forest Service.

Quinault Indian Nation Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan Update – Public Meeting Held June 9th 2016

The Quinault Indian Nation (QIN) with assistance from American Community Enrichment (501c3), was awarded a FEMA Pre-Disaster Mitigation Grant.

QIN has an existing Pre-Disaster Hazard Mitigation Plan that was developed in 2010 and updated in 2015. This Plan was funded by FEMA per FEMA requirements that all Plans must be updated every 5 years. A critical element of the entire Plan Update process requires input from the QIN Tribal Community. On June 9, 2016 a (second) Public Meeting was held in support of QIN’s 5-year Pre-Disaster Hazard Mitigation Plan Update to review and discuss progress made to date. The first Public Meeting took place on March 23, 2016.

Grays Harbor County Firewise Communities Program
Phase 3 Event Preparation Update Report released

As part of a contract from Grays Harbor County, American Community Enrichment is proceeding with Firewise Communities Program Phase 3. American Community Enrichment Mary Swarthout announced the release of an update report. Phase 3 is designed to focus on regional program outreach activities and events in support of assisting cities, towns and tribes within Grays Harbor County with an interest in applying for National Fire Protection Association Firewise Community Designation. Activities and events will be coordinated with applicable Fire Districts as well as area City, Town and Tribal leaders, homeowners, community leaders, planners, developers and others in the effort to inform communities about the Firewise Communities Program in support of protecting people, property, and natural resources from the risk of wildland fire as well as educate communities with regards to the Wildland Urban Interface. American Community Enrichment was asked to prepare a PowerPoint presentation illustrating how the Quinault Indian Nation’s Renewable Energy Projects were developed as well as the strategic planning used. American Community Enrichment President, Jesse Cardenas; Michael Cardwell, Quinault Indian Nation Dir. of Community Services; and Julie Law, Quinault Grants and Contracts Manager, all took part in the webinar as key note speakers and presenters.

Deputy Under Secretary Kunesh was scheduled to be in our area for a meeting with Olympic Peninsula Native American Tribes and hearing USDA Rural Development funded project presentations.
