Stewart Field

American Community Enrichment helped the Aberdeen School District restore and upgrade a regional sports field

Stewart Field

Stewart Field, a once valued community resource, became largely unusable because of poor drainage and deteriorated sod conditions. A new stable, well-drained base and new all purpose artificial turf solved the problem.

Stewart Field is the high school athletic facility for the Aberdeen (WA) School District. Football has been played at this site for over 100 years. Despite the best efforts of groundskeepers for the district, the combination of use by the high school football and soccer teams and youth football, as well as the constantly damp conditions, rendered the field wet, muddy, and hazardous for players. Conditions were so poor during the 2008 football season that the homecoming game had to be moved to Hoquiam (their fiercest rival). This was the second time in 4 years that homecoming had to be moved due to poor field conditions.

The new synthetic turf results in a much safer playing field as well as decreased water usage as it no longer requires routine watering and resulted in a decrease in the use of pesticides, fertilizers, and fuel to run lawn mowers, all benefiting the environment. The new turf ensures a stable events center for years to come.
