September 2015 Update:
American Community Enrichment is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Grays Harbor County Firewise Communities Program Phase 2. Accomplishment highlights include the following:
- The City of Ocean Shores, with assistance from American Community Enrichment, applied for and was awarded Firewise Community Designation from The National Fire Protection Association – this Designation allows the City of Ocean Shores to develop Firewise Community projects and compete for federal grants to assist with project funding – City of Ocean Shores is the first City in Grays Harbor County to receive Firewise Community Designation
- The City of Ocean Shores, with assistance from American Community Enrichment, applied for and was awarded a USDA Rural Development Grant in support of conducting a feasibility study in support of constructing a Firebreak/Trail between the beach dune grass areas and businesses and private residences
- American Community Enrichment, in coordination with the Ocean Shores Fire Department, developed a Firewise Communities Outreach Program that was presented at the 2014 Ocean Shores Fire Department Open House as well at other City of Ocean Shores events in support of Firewise Communities Program awareness and education
- Development of Potential Fire Hazard Identification Lists and Maps in coordination with City of Ocean Shores Planning Department
- Development of Firewise Program funding agencies list in support of Firewise Communities Project implementation – Potential funding agencies include USDA Rural Development, US Forest Service and FEMA
- Development of Firewise Communities Program Roadshow presentation in support of regional outreach
